What to Wear

For group portraits with family or loved ones, aim for coordinating colours rather than identical outfits.

Choose a colour palette and have each person wear variations of those shades for a harmonious look.

For a timeless look, opt for neutral tones (cream, beige, grey, navy, or soft pastels) and simple, well-fitted clothing.

Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or overly trendy styles that may date your photos over time.

Keep It Classic

Coordinate, Don’t Match

Your outfit should reflect your personality while complementing the elegant studio setting.

Whether you prefer a polished, formal look or something more relaxed and natural, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Consider Your Style & Personality

Stay away from neon colours, bold patterns, or graphics that can draw attention away from you.

Solid colours or subtle prints work best to keep the focus on expressions and emotions.

Knits, linen, and subtle textures photograph beautifully, adding depth and richness to your portraits.

Consider layering with a cardigan, jacket, or scarf for variety in your session.

Avoid Distracting Elements

Minimal jewellery, clean and polished shoes, and natural makeup enhance your look without overpowering it.

If you’re due for a haircut or grooming, plan it a few days before your session to ensure a fresh yet natural look.

Special Considerations for Different Sessions

Classic Christmas shades like deep red, emerald green, navy, gold, or winter whites always look beautiful.

Soft neutrals with a pop of festive colour work well too.

Soft, comfortable clothing in muted tones works best.

Bare feet are often a lovely touch and avoid the photo appearing outdated in years to come.

I think this is my favourite and the best for fine art portraits! A stunning full length ball gown with lots of flow to the skirt.

It can hide feet so allows you to wear boots for safety!

You are welcome to wear your show jacket and breeches.

This may be appropriate for a retiring horse or rider moving from ponies to horses etc.

Well fitting jeans and a nice solid coloured top that compliments your horse’s coat colour can work.

Make sure your boots are clean!

What Should My Horse Wear?

A clean well fitting bridle will always work well.

The reins should be easily removed from a snaffle bridle.

Remember to clean the bit!

I use a special halter which I can later edit out in Photoshop so in the final image the horse appears free!

A bridle will normally be required until the horse is relaxed enough to use the photo halter.

A good quality leather headcollar can suit some horses.

A brass nameplate can be a nice touch.
